Is it really possible?
Could it be that there is actually a job out there that I would love so much I would do it for free?
We've all heard of the concept, yet for many of us this is little more than an unrealistic pipe dream. We toil away at jobs that we hate because we feel that we have no other choice. We have bills to pay, debt we are carrying and lifestyles to which we are accustomed. To just walk away from a less-than-ideal job in pursuit of something that perhaps doesn't exist in the hopes of finding not only the perfect occupation for us, but one that is going to pay us well just isn't a practical notion.
Take myself for example. Recent events have caused me to take a long, hard look at my current employment situation and ask myself some tough questions. A networking meeting I had with someone the other day whom I have only known for a couple of weeks has resulted in a significant epiphany: I am a right-brain person in a left-brain job. No wonder I am miserable!
My job is heavily administrative in a medium- to high-pressure environment, and has little room for creativity and innovation. It is grossly low-paid and is virtually devoid of opportunity for advancement. Fortunately, I work with some wonderful people and am able to enjoy the relationships I have built with my coworkers and customers, however it can be a real struggle to get through a day with my sanity intact. My adult attention deficit issues make it difficult for me to focus in the hurricane of activity that surrounds me at the office, and has proven to be a real challenge in adapting to an environment where multitasking is the #1 required skill to have in your arsenal. However I am proud to say that I have made significant strides in overcoming these Achilles' Heels of mine thanks to my own determination and stubbornness. I realize with great chagrin that my left-brained team is often frustrated and bewildered at my inability to do what they find ridiculously easy.
However this recent turning point has me very excited about my future. My brain is bursting with ideas and thoughts right now, and I need to find a way to organize them all and put them into action. Speaking on the phone to one of my sisters today, who was very encouraging and enthusiastic about it all, has me wanting to explore things further. For the first time I am actually entertaining the thought of abandoning my HR studies altogether and going in a completely different direction.
Stay tuned to see what happens next!

Excerpt from a cat's diary
Day 683 of my captivity:
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. The audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released --and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded! The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe....... for now...

This too shall pass
"I love you, and I am so sad that you are living this unfulfilling and frustrating life. I would give anything for you to not have to endure this. You are my best friend, and it pains me to see you sacrificing everything to allow everyone else to be the priority. I really identify with that guilt, that complete and utter inability to stomp your foot and say 'wait a minute...what about ME???' And I am filled with utter contempt for the person who expects you to give, give, give all the time and never ask anything in return. You deserve SO much better than this, and I dearly hope that one day you'll get it.
"Keep your chin and spirits up...little ones are watching you. When hurtful comments, pure negligence and indifference are offered to you, take them with a grain of salt, and trust that karma can be a real bitch.
"This is the cross that you were born to bear. Just know that there is a special little place in Heaven waiting for you for all that you have given up for those you care about, and those you don't feel you have the strength to fight. And whatever you decide...
"...I'm right behind you all the way."

"You're On Notice!"
My P.O.M. (Peeves of the Month)
8. PARIS HILTON. She's just a complete waste of fresh air, skin and Prada.
7. ANTIBIOTIC ABUSERS. It is because of you idiots that we now have so many more strains of bacteria that are resistant to treatment. And thanks to you we are all getting sicker and sicker every year. You deserve to spend eternity in the ER waiting rooms.
6. GLOBAL WARMING for changing the entire climate of this planet. Or should I thank humanity for being so disrespectful and negligent? As much as winter sucks, it is a sign that all is right in the world.
5. AMAZON.COM for being SLOWER THAN MOLASSES IN JANUARY with sending me my purchase. Come on! Six weeks to send a VHS tape in the mail? Whatever. I see you wasted no time in debiting my bank account, though.
4. MY NEXT COLD VIRUS. I have had three colds in the past three months after going a whole year of excellent health. WTF??? And now as I shake off the effects of the most recent virus everyone around me is getting yet another strain. And guess who's getting sneezed on again? ENOUGH!!!!
3. DEADLY S. AFRICA TUBERCULOSIS STRAIN. Please...I beg you...stay in South Africa. You are not welcome here. We do not want you. If you must cross into our country visit upon the ANTIBIOTIC ABUSERS mentioned above who are wholly responsible for your existence. Thank you.
2. TIM HORTON'S for having the worst service EVER at the Oshawa Centre outlet. Not only did they keep screwing up our orders, but they had the nerve to complain back at us for complaining, and then told us to take our business elsewhere instead of offering to correct our orders. Even the district manager told us to go fly a kite when we called to try to escalate the issue.
I despise the mentality of big box companies like Tim's and Walmart. They completely suck the culture out of every town they settle into to the point that we feel compelled to go to them instead of the smaller companies who actually WANT our business.
1. OSHAWA SOCIAL WORKERS who don't give a damn that all the losers they see in a day who are applying for 'pogey' are actually too goddamn lazy to work when there is work out there. Instead of calling the agencies to follow up to see if there applicants are trying to find work, they just pump out the applications like it's going out of style. How can we get mad at these bottom feeders for choosing to sit around on their asses all day collecting EI from the tax purse when social services is encouraging them all along???
