Just when you think you can trust someone, you let your guard down for a millisecond, and WHAMO! You get it up the tailpipe.
I have two new tenants who have just moved into my basement. One of them is a student at the local college who has been renting a room upstairs from me for about six months. I have been living with her and she has been absolutely no problem. When the basement became vacant and there were no takers after I posted ad after ad, she suggested she and her friend move downstairs and split the rent. I thought it was a perfect situation, because I had developed a good relationship with her over the months she had been living with me, so the person she was recommending had to be trustworthy too, as she vouched for her all the way. They aren't real partiers, and they both work many hours at the local McDonald's when they're not in school, so I figured they'd be studious and quiet tenants.
Well they haven't been living downstairs for a week and they are already having people over all the time. The other girl's boyfriend spent a couple of nights here as well, which is a chronic issue I had with my previous tenant. And so it begins...
Now I spoke with D, my former roomie, and told her that I realize I cannot stop them from having guests, but I am not happy about the situation because it was not what we agreed upon. D and M and I all talked about quiet and not overusing the utilities because they aren't paying for them. Utility usage does increase when there are frequent guests, especially overnight ones, and it is for this reason that I get sticky on the issue. Also I have an older water heater that runs out of hot water after three showers or two large loads of laundry, and cannot sustain more than three full-time residents.
I thought I had made myself clear, however tonight about an hour ago the boyfriend shows up again for a visit. This is obviously going to be an ongoing problem that I am not going to escape, and I'm pissed that I let myself get duped.
I've made up my mind: next time I'm renting to a guy...he'll never be home because he'll always be at his girlfriend's place!
Bizzy ;)
